This lecture will examine and discuss the pros and cons of Reconstruction and other roles African Americans forged after the Civil War. Learn how meetings happen throughout the south that helped educate African Americans as they moved forward in their new-found freedom, or so they thought. You will also learn how these moments affected the lives of African Americans of today.
February’s African American Lecture Series, “How Free is Free: Civil Right Act of 1866,” features comedian, Timothy A. Shropshire. Shropshire is a dynamic speaker who intertwines comedy into each of his messages. Shropshire lives by the slogan “Comedy the way God likes it.” In this presentation, Shropshire takes an inside look at how African-Americans were affected by the Civil War Act of 1866.
