At the Gallery: Kander & Ebb

John Kander and Fred Ebb met in 1962 through their mutual music publisher Tommy Valando. Over the next forty years, the duo wrote a number of famous and well-loved musicals, including “Caberet” and “Zorba.” The award winning “Chicago” became the longest running American Broadway Musical and Longest Running Revival in 2014. They wrote considerable material for Chita Rivera and Liza Minnelli, whose career was kick started with their “Flora the Red Menace.” Hits from their catalog include “All that Jazz,” “Why Should I Wake Up,” “Isn’t This Better,” and “New York New York,” Sinatra’s signature tune.

Patrick  Bliss is a classically trained musician and vocalist, with a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from High Point University in High Point, NC.  Interested in music most of his life, he only started taking his vocal abilities seriously in 2004, his junior year in high school.  Since then, he has performed for packed houses, earned national awards, composed music, directed ensembles, taught voice, and has pursued his professional career in every way possible.  Despite his classical background, however, he is pursuing a career in popular music and is now a gigging musician with a growing repertoire of original material.  Patrick is currently Special Events and Annual Fund Coordinator at Lenoir Community College in Kinston.

Timothy Maddox received his Masters in Music Education from Bob Jones University and he currently serves as an instructor and special events coordinator at Lenoir Community College in Kinston.  He has been playing piano since he was 7 and has been privileged to travel nationwide performing for numerous vocal groups.  Timothy lives in New Bern where he is actively involved in the local theater community as both musical director and pianist.
