Craven Community College provides high quality, readily accessible assistance to prospective and existing small businesses. For those interested in starting a small business or currently operate or work at a small business, CCC offers a wide variety of business seminars, workshops and courses to increase business success and to help potential entrepreneurs get started on the right foot. Many programs are free of charge or have minimal registration fee. The SBA also provides free confidential counseling services for individuals wishing to start a business.
The Entrepreneur Academy for Aspiring and Current Entrepreneurs offers 30 hours of free in-class study over a five-week period with the goal of creating a business plan. The Entrepreneur Academy also offers a free program of training for agriculture enthusiasts that is focused on project work in biotechnology.

Neuse River Development Authority, Inc. (NRDA) is a non-profit small business leader serving a 10-county region in eastern North Carolina. Offering seven different loan programs, NRDA’s goals are job creation coupled with sustainable economic growth. Since its beginning in 1979, NRDA has loaned over $30mm to business owners throughout eastern North Carolina. NRDA makes small business loans to new and expanding businesses that have been unable to obtain conventional financing or that need to leverage conventional financing. NRDA has over $4.3 million available for direct lending. They also participate in the SBA 504 loan program.

Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE) Down East Chapter 577 serves clients in Craven, Jones, Lenoir and Pamlico counties in North Carolina. Successful business persons volunteer their time, knowledge and experience to persons who would like to start a business or improve an existing one. This includes business plan review, market evaluation and financing alternatives. Individual advice is given in face-to-face meetings, by email and/or by telephone. Group training is provided in classroom workshops.
